I have a mid 2009 17” MacBook Pro with a new calibrated battery and now the computer will not turn on even with the 85 watt MagSafe plugged in. Prior to draining the battery it worked fine.

Does your Mac run fine with the battery disconnected? Disconnect the battery and try powering up your Mac without it.
