Goes to black screen with 0271 real time clock error - check date and time setting’s but won’t let me change them
Hi, Try a power refresh and see if this resolves the problem. Turn off the laptop if on, and disconnect the charger if connected. Remove the main battery from the laptop. (see p.62 of the (hardware maintenance manual) Disconnect the RTC/CMOS coin cell battery from the motherboard. Here’s the Ifixit Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 CMOS / BIOS Battery Replacement guide to show how to do this. Whilst it is out measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC replace it. The part number for the battery is 04W4118. Search online using the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best. The laptop should dtart OK if the RTC battery is low but the date and time message will be there every time it is started and also the BIOS may become corrupted again Press and hold the laptop’s Power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it. This will dissipate any residual charge from the motherboard and restore any corrupted BIOS settings, that may be preventing a normal start, back to their factory default settings. Reconnect the RTC battery, reassemble the laptop, reinsert the main battery, connect the charger and try to turn on the laptop. If it turns on then there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. Get into BIOS (press F1 on Startup) and correct the date and time, save the changes and restart the laptop.
