That doesn’t sound right “virtual wifi mini port adapter”. It doesn’t sound like the actual Wifi card is being detected. In Windows 7, go to the control panels, network and sharing center, change adapter settings. There you should see an adapter that says Dell Wifi adapter or Atheros Wifi adapter or something like that. If that is not showing, then you may have a bad card or perhaps it was disabled in the Dell BIOS. Restart the PC, enter the Dell BIOS, (Hit the DEL key or one of the F keys, probably F2 before Windows starts to load) check to see that the Wifi card is enabled and detected. As oldturkey03 said, if the card is there and detected in the BIOS, then try to reinstall the drivers from the Dell Website. If none of that works, then you may have to replace the wifi module.
Suggest you purchase a Mini USB WIFI dongle for about £5.00 on EBay and plug into a spare usb port. WIFI cards on N5050 were always suspect.
