Hi, I damaged my display on the M1 Macbook Air, Late 2020 base model. I have a donor laptop that is the same model, same OEM display and all, and I was wondering if there would be any problems if I just transplanted the display from one macbook to the other. I don’t want to lose out on features like TrueTone or suffer any problems. I was wondering if anyone knew if TrueTone is no longer usable after doing this kind of transplant? Will TrueTone only be preserved if Apple themselves does the repair, or if I do it myself will I lose out on that feature? I’m only using genuine Apple parts that were donated, no third party parts. Thanks
Apple killed reuse of display assembly’s with the M series systems. Basically, the display is tied to the given systems logic board. Apple did start a self repair program for the M1 based MacBook systems. So far they haven’t offered any info on the M2 systems. And lastly this program is limited to the states. Here’s the link to the program Apple Self Repair So you have no options, time to visit Apple for the repair if you need to get your system fixed now. If you can use an eternal display for now I suspect Apple will intro the M2 systems in the new year.
