so i dropped my phone in the water , half of it, it covered charger hole and earphone hole for a second, i immediately took it out and dried right away in vertical position so the water would not go to inside. everythign works perfectly , other than I cant hear anythign when i plug int he earphones. is it possible that it recovers on its own? Should i leave my phone in vertical position so if any water is left , it wont damage the rest of the phone? phone’s working fine.

Hi @mariam234 , You may have been lucky but only time will tell. The earphones don’t work already and it may be that they won’t work again until the phone has been opened and inspected as to why. It may also be (hopefully not) that some other features/functions of the phone begin to fail in the coming days/weeks if corrosion has started to take place inside the phone. The impurities in the water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone’s operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it is completely cleaned away. Normally what is best to be done when any liquids comes into contact with electronic devices is to not try to charge or to turn on the device and then remove the battery as soon as possible from the device to minimize any further damage. After this you need to dis-assemble the rest of the device and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. If possible do not use “rubbing alcohol” as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage What is the model number of the phone? There are a lot of ifixit Samsung Galaxy A Repair guides that will help you to open the phone so that you can inspect for any damage if it becomes necessary. If corrosion has begun it will only get worse not better.
