Hi there :) I got iMac 5K 2014 27” which had HDD but removed as died. Now because no HDD fan is full on as thermal sensor in HDD is missing - would it fix it installing PCIe SSD (original Apple or NVMe with adapter)? All I know all iMacs originally shipped with PCIe SSD only (without HDD) fans were working fans as normal. Do they have “special” different firmware or just if iMac detected removed HDD but installed PCIe SSD automatically “cure” itself Thank You for help
A blade SSD model would have a jumper on the logic board to disable the HDD sensor. Your options are just put in a replacement SATA 3.5” HDD or a 2.5” SSD with the OWC in-line sensor and call it a day. Or, put in the correct Apple or OWC blade SSD into the PCIe/NVMe blade drive slot to gain the most performance. I personally don’t like using the M.2 SSD’s with their funky adapters in iMac’s given how difficult they are to get to it’s just not wise! To put in bluntly, I have a very full drawer of dead M.2 SSD’s and adapters I’ve pulled out of Mac systems! The quality of the drive and the adapters as well as the way Apple setup the custom interface these M.2 SSD’s just can’t emulate.
