Hi there, i think I accidentally fried my macbook’s the facetime hd camera circuitry. Apparently im stupid enough to remove and attache back the flex cable while the battery was still connected to the motherboard. I did this because theres this horizontal lines in my macbook display, which i thought would be fixed if i reseat a few flex cables, but then i end up with a non-working camera. Now i have two problems… If i replace the entire display assembly, will it fix the camera issue? this is the replacement part: MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly Update (11/12/2020) Hi Seff Ka, I think it’s fried because the camera is no longer detected. Also, back when I try to put the cable back, I think I remember hearing a tiny click–im think I shorted something out. I tried to reseat it several times (with battery unplugged to the board), but no luck..
Dear, oh dear! ))) OK let’s start from your header - yes, according to the link you’ve provided that particular assembly includes the FaceTime HD Camera but will the assembly fix your problem? That is the question )) Can I ask why do you believe that you “fried your camera circuitry”? Normally there should not be a problem if you disconnect and reconnect your cables as you described, unless … there are quite a list of possibilities, almost none of which, unfortunately, could be fixed with just the purchase of new display assembly ))) I know it all does sound a bit anecdotal, but I would suggest you to carefully redo the disconnecting, verifying all the connectors and resitting them all again. Please share the results of your operation, and we will go from there. Resitting will definitely not fix those horizontal lines, for that you will need a new good assembly (which will be dead in the next few months), but let’s see if we can at least have a camera back. Good luck.
I have the same issue, had a customer bring in his MBP that had liquid damage that had other issues, he took it to the apple store, got it back with no camera detected. now his problem became my problem as he brought it to my shop to repaired. it seems like the short just carries over to the logic board and to the camera. after testing with a new logic board and display both good parts are now bad since I tested with each of them one by one.
