My gas cap is cracked and there’s no choke on my mower. Will this make it harder to start

My experience has been that it WILL start and run, but a cracked gas cap will decrease engine performance, fuel leakage, and cause poor gas mileage. Sometimes you will hear uneven engine noise as it surges and slightly dies back.
