I just replaced my screen and battery and my home button is not working, despite the Touch ID still work. It sounds strange, but Touch ID still well. I tried to unplug and replug the cable flex 5 times, having the same result: touch id ok, home button not working. I saw on the internet several videos about the replacement and in some of them, a small piece of metal is touching the lcd back panel, but in others, it is rotate to the bottom. I tried both, with no success. It was working properly before the replacement, and I did everything very carefully. I don’t have the foggiest idea about what to do. As the button can’t be replaced, I think my iphone will be never the same :- Any ideas? Update
I don’t see any problem here. Do you? Update I might have found the problem. During the screen/battery replacement process I damaged the flex cable of the connector/housing. If you zoom the pictures, you will see that the plastic protection of the wires was peeled! I’m not sure what extend it was: enough to break the connection or not. Everything I now is that the Touch ID is working properly, which makes me more hopeful. If I need to replace this part, what would it be?
Update
The picture shows a scratch in the flex cable where I connect the home button flex cable. Looking at the internet, I found that this flex cable comes from the dock. So, I believe I need to replace this part as well. Fortunately, it will cost only 10-20 Australian dollars. What is unexpected is that the Touch ID functionality still working like knew. Anyway, this is the best news I could have, because I won’t need to replace the motherboard/touch id button, which would cost me hundreds of dollars. The question is: that small scratch would be able to make the home button stop working???
Hello Felipeqdrumond First of all could you check the back of the home button there should be a small black nub, if not, then that’s your problem, that we nub is what is needed for the home button to work properly. Word of warning if you replace the whole button your Touch ID will never work again as every phone ha it’s own individual button for that certain handset. Hope this helps David
I had the same problem with iphone 5s. Touch id worked but home button wouldn’t. I bought a new home button and changed it but still wouldnt work. I then changed the dock connector and put the old home button back on and it works perfect now. Have home button and touch id working. Hope this helps
Did anyone actually manage to fix it? I got stuck with a water damaged iphone 5s and tried to fix it. Before giving the logic board a dip in 100% isopropyl, the touch ID was working and the home button was not. After my efforts, the screen is changed and doesn’t change colours anymore but the camera is still black and the touch ID has stopped working as well as the home button. The touch ID setup works; it does not skip to the failed screen. Instead it keeps on waiting for me to give it a finger impression. It does not register the touch though. Any tips would be a great help. Cheers.
I had the same problem with an iPhone 5S that I bought from eBay and I was able to fix it by replacing a broken in half filter FL5 that is involved in the dock connector flex cable function. It’s working perfectly fine now!
I have the same issue, I changed my iphone 5s screen, then the home button is not working but finger print is ok, I found that one of the flex cable prongs is broken, my own logic explanation that this broken prong is for the home button press, other prongs are ok that is why the finger print is working, the problem is i don’t have any guide to fix that prong :(
