My wonnie portable DVD player has never worked unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to return it and now I’m stuck with it. It turns on and when any dvd is put inside, it says loading. I can also hear the disc spinning but nothing ever loads. I have tried cleaning the lens with alcohol but this didn’t help. I am a complete novice in such matters but am very willing to learn how I can fix it (if it’s even possible). Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi @zeeaitch82 , There’s not much information online about the player so I suggest is that initially you open it up and check the connection from the laser lens mechanism to the control board. I realize that you said that the lens lights up but maybe the connection is not secure, especially at the systemboard board end. Loose on one edge perhaps if a plug in type connector Also if the lens is not angled correctly it won’t “read” the disc. Unfortunately you need special equipment to measure when the lens is set at the correct angle. This is pre-set in the factory and really should never alter but you never know. Even replacement lens mechanisms are already pre-set for the model that they’re designated for so they can be just dropped in. Other than that inspect the board for any obvious signs of component damage. If none are obvious then without the service manual (I couldn’t find one) it is extremely difficult to find out where the problem lies be it with the lens mechanism or the systemboard. You may be lucky to find a faulty unit, say one with a damaged screen only and use it for a donor unit by swapping parts etc. Again I’ve searched for this option without result.
