My Macbook Pro display isn’t showing an image. The screens back light works, the computer is operational when using an external display, and even after installing a new display I have the same problem. I read something about it being a problem with updating the OS, so I reformatted my drive and reinstalled from a back up but that did not fix the issue. Does anybody have any other things I can try before I look at changing out the logic board? [currently running Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan]

I would try resetting the NVRAM following this Apple T/N: How to reset NVRAM on your Mac. See if that helps, let us know.
