I have an iPhone 5s, and it functions fine, but will not connect to the carrier, or acknowledge that a SIM card is even in the phone. What do I do?

Check if Imei and modem firmware is displayed in settings general about phone. If neither or one are not displayed then the phone has a board level issue that may not be worth repairing.
